You can receive inpatient treatment at any hospital in your coverage zone. Unlike other insurance providers, we don’t restrict you to a network of hospitals or clinics.

The information on this page refers to inpatient and daypatient treatment (i.e. when you’re admitted to hospital). For treatment such as doctor visits or specialist consultations, please visit our page on how outpatient treatment works.
Inpatient treatment is medical treatment you receive that requires your overnight admission to hospital. It’s different to outpatient treatment, which you receive at a hospital or clinic without being admitted.
Surgical cancer treatment, transplants, or treatment following a stroke or cardiac problem are examples of inpatient treatment that will likely require you to spend one night or more in hospital.
Sometimes you might be formally admitted to hospital, but you don’t need to stay overnight. This is called daypatient treatment, and we treat it in the same way as inpatient treatment.
You can receive inpatient treatment at any hospital in your coverage zone. We don’t have a network of hospitals that you must use. Freedom to choose where you receive treatment is one of the main advantages of a health insurance policy with William Russell.
Use our hospital finder tool below to see the hospitals and clinics where our members have received inpatient or daypatient treatment:
Contact us as soon as you know you need medical treatment that requires admission to hospital. We’ll need to pre-authorise your treatment. We’ll contact the treating hospital and obtain the necessary medical information. If your plan covers the proposed treatment, we’ll attempt to send the hospital our guarantee that we’ll pay for your treatment.
Find out everything you need to know to claim for inpatient treatment in our complete guide to how claims work for inpatient treatment.
We want to provide you with an insurance policy you can rely on, so it is important that you fully understand the scope of the cover we provide. Answers to the most common questions on hospitals used for inpatient treatment are here, but feel free to get in touch and speak to our award-winning team. We’d be glad to help.
It depends.
If you’re not a resident of Hong Kong and you have a health insurance policy with Zone 1, you have full cover for inpatient treatment at any hospital in Hong Kong.
If your country of residence is Hong Kong, there may be restrictions on the hospitals where you can receive inpatient treatment. If you receive treatment in a private room at the Matilda International Hospital, the Hong Kong Adventist Hospital, or the Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital, and you don’t have the necessary option for full cover on your health insurance policy, you’ll need to pay a 20% co-insurance on all treatment and accommodation costs.
You can receive outpatient treatment at any hospital or clinic in your coverage zone.
Claims for outpatient treatment work differently from claims for inpatient treatment. In most cases, you pay for your outpatient treatment yourself and claim back your expenses from us.
The tool shows hospitals in each country where our members have received inpatient or daypatient treatment since 01 January 2020. It does not show our formal network of hospitals and clinics (i.e. hospitals that accept our guarantees of payment).
The tool is powered by our own claims data, and we update it regularly.
